Kent Tate: Carbon Sky Preview - Director, cinematographer & sound design - Kent Tate 12:57   CV

For three years I focused on the semi-deserts, deep valleys, and vast plateaus in the interior of British Columbia to observe the interactions of the natural and manufactured worlds, worlds brought into perspective by the ever changing presence of shadow and light.

While I was filming in these places I was never able to separate my imagination from the political, commercial and cultural impacts that influence these landscapes, and it's these relationships that shaped everything I saw.

During 2017 and 2018 over 25000 square kilometres were burned in BC as a result of the combined record breaking wild fires seasons. In spite of what seemed like endless smoke and haze at times, days of illuminating light occurred, reminders of a world that once was, a world rapidly changing in the midst of the Anthropocene.

Filmed by Kent Tate on location in the interior of British Columbia, Canada + a mysterious visitation by Buckminster Fuller. An early 20th Century electro magnetic coil appears briefly after his visit.
